Exploring The Wild Unknown Tarot

Part 2

Trial Connection Spread, Crystals to Use, and Deck Review

“I married Isis on the fifth day of May
But I could not hold on to her very long
So I cut off my hair and I rode straight away
For the wild unknown country where I could not go wrong.”

-Bob Dylan

We started discussing Tarot Spreads using The Wild Unknown(TWU) Tarot Deck in Part 1 of this segment. I used the 5 Spreads that Kim Krans illustrates in the TWU Guidebook to do Trial Spreads.

In addition to doing Trial Spreads, we discussed the meanings and applications of the cards chosen and crystals that can be used to execute their interpretations. In Part 2, we are going to continue discussing these spreads, the cards, and crystals to use with them.

Connection Spread- Five Card Reading

The Connection Spread offers powerful insight into the dynamics between two people, hence the term, connection. This reading can provide us with answers as to where we disconnect or lose sight of tarotone another.  Also, what is the energy that can bring a couple in a relationship back together or back to the center?

Card Positioning:

  • Card #1: You
  • Card #2: Your Challenge
  • Card #3: The Other Person
  • Card #4: Their Challenge
  • Card #5: The Uniting Forces

Cards #2 and #4 are the distractions that pull us apart.

Card #5 indicates the key to mending the relationship or building a stronger connection. This could be a shared vision, what you have in common, or a reminder of your combined essence.

Trial Spread

This spread is going to be in answer to a question about how to

mend a relationship or make a relationship stronger.

You: Seven of Wands

Courage, Inner Strength

A single wand stands tall , ablaze with light. It radiates with light whilst the others stand aside, taken aback by this sudden display.

This card teaches you to “go to the beat of your own drum” and to stand up against adversity.

Don’t be silenced. Don’t give up. Don’t sit quietly by doing what everyone else is doing. Be brave and bright, be engulfed by your true power!

Pertaining to your relationship, don’t let outsiders influence you and your significant other if you know them to be false. Stand up for yourself and your partner. Fight against negative feelings or comments from family and friends. The two of you are the only ones in this relationship.

Crystal to Use

Red Amethyst

Red Amethyst combines the energy of the Amethyst and the rich red energy rays of Hematite. It is an action crystal cluster of strong energy that builds fearlessness, fosters action, and promotes productivity. It imbues a sense of calm with grounding and protection.

Your Challenge: Eight of Wands

Sudden Movement or Change, Action

This card strikes like lightning. It brings news, change, or clarity in an unresolved situation.

This card can show the moment of an epiphany, where we have a sudden burst of energy to take the next step. This card reminds us that change is constant, but we can always choose to take our own action and find purpose in the seemingly random events of our lives.

This Tarot card could also indicate a literal physical movement, meaning that travel or a big move may be imminently in your future.

If this is “your challenge”, it could mean that you are always on the go or always looking for a change in scenery and this is negatively affecting your relationship. You may be desperately waiting for a dramatic, life-changing event.

If you wish for your relationship to succeed, try to be happy with what you have in your life presently and try to live in the “now”. If it is important for you to travel or you are in dire need of a change, try including your partner in your plans for the future. Share your hopes and dreams with them.

Literally, this Tarot card could mean that a big move is in your future and it might affect your relationship. You may be dealing with a long-term relationship in the future. Maybe the dramatic event is the decision to take the relationship to the next level and move together. Adversely, you may have to make the hard decision to “call it quits” and part ways.

Crystal to Use

Blue John Fluorite

Blue John Fluorite carries the spirit of change and personal growth. It stimulates spontaneity and emboldens one to brave the unknown, in physical travel, and in the desire for new discoveries and fresh experiences. Blue John encourages altruistic pursuits, enkindles trust, and helps one make good decisions.

It is a useful ally for getting oneself out of bad situations, and can lend the courage needed to effect permanent changes in one’s lifestyle. A stone of the Third Eye and Crown Chakras, it brings a sense of deep peace and clarity of mind, as well as offering assistance in knowing where to look for answers and solution.

The Other Person: The Tower

Unexpected Upheaval, Crisis, Change

This image alludes back to the Emperor card, in which we also saw a solid evergreen tree. The Emperor seemed to be magnificent, sturdy, and invincible. The well-rooted tree that has been growing strong for decades is crashing down around you. Here we see that there are forces of upheaval which can unexpectedly strike even the strongest of us.

Your world may feel like it’s falling apart. Even though this phase is painful and confusing, it will be over soon. Everything happens for a reason and you will gratefully look back on this time. You may even see this as a “personal breakthrough”.

In the Connection Tarot Spread, this is your partner. Has your significant other experienced a loss recently or is he/she going through a hard time because of a life-changing event? This is a moment for you to step in and be his/her support.  You may not understand completely what they are going through, but they will appreciate that you were there for them in their time of need.

Crystal to Use

Morganite is the Crystal of Divine Love. It cleanses the emotional body of stress and anxiety, old wounds and hidden traumas, and enkindles lightness within the spirit, as if a burden has been lifted.

This crystal also attracts the abundance of love into one’s life and assists in maintaining that love as it continues to grow. It encourages loving thoughts and actions, consideration and responsibility, and being receptive to love from others. As a crystal of the heart, it may be used to attract one’s soul mate or in deepening a current relationship.

Morganite evokes a sense of peace, joy and inner strength; worn for extended periods of time, it encourages a growth of confidence and power that comes from a constant awareness of the connection to Divine love.

Their Challenge: The Chariot

Strong Will, Achievement, Triumph

The Chariot is your confidence, your will, and your inner warrior. You will soon be feeling the bliss of achievement or triumph over a hard obstacle. Build a relationship with this part of yourself. Try to “see” The Chariot inside of you.

This card reminds one of a young adult, someone who has certainly matured but may have a narrow view of their overall growth. This Chariot wears a chain around her neck, adorned by a single pentacle. This may symbolize the mastery she has gained so far.

The Chariot knows how to overcome adversity, maximize will-power and succeed against all odds.

If  The Chariot is “their challenge”, then it probably means that he/she lacks confidence. They may not think they have the capability to defeat whatever obstacle they are facing. Try to guide them in the right direction. As their partner, you have the ability to show them how strong and capable that they are. You can help them realize that they have the strength and will-power to overcome all that they are going through. Let your significant other know that you are there for them through “thick and thin”.Don’t be afraid to step in and lend a helping hand, even if they don’t ask for it.

Crystal to Use

Heliodor helps one develop assertiveness, self-confidence, physical and mental strength, benevolence and power. It assists in taking back one’s power, and lends confidence and a sense of self-trust.

Heliodor is a hope stone, alleviating irritability and nervousness, and providing relief from heavy burdens and immense pressure. It brings stability and optimism.

Heliodor encourages a sense of hope, possibility and vitality to the emotional body. It is empowering and optimistic, and assists in learning whatever is necessary to promote change in one’s reality, helping to accomplish one’s dreams and goals. It is the ultimate confidence and wellbeing crystal, often called the sunshine stone.

The Uniting Forces: Daughter of Cups

Emotional, Creative, Romantic

Creative Energy abounds from the Daughter of Cups. She ‘s romantic, artistic, and easily inspired by her surroundings.

She is a true dreamer by nature. She struggles to stay “grounded” and conflict of any kind can be very damaging to this gentle creature.

Symbolically, swans have been associated with love, elegance and grace. They are creatures that seem simultaneously fragile and powerful.

The Daughter of Cups has a simple approach to life, but there can be great power in simplicity. In a reading, this card can ask you to open your heart. There is magic in vulnerability. Sometimes we need to trust our intuition and our own good nature.

In this spread, this card signifies the “common ground” or “unified force” in the relationship. You and your partner are both sensitive, romantic, and creative by nature, which is probably what drew you to one another. When both are sensitive, however, tensions can quickly rise about insignificant issues.

With great sensitivity and intellect, can also come stubbornness. Try to take the “high road” in an argument. Even though your feelings may be hurt, try to see the situation from your partner’s point of view and be objective.

Someone has to stay grounded in the relationship, so, sometimes, take it upon yourself to be the voice of reason. If you both work towards these goals, you will have a much happier and healthier relationship.

Crystal to Use

Moss Agate

Moss Agate brings peace and stability to the emotional body. Its steady energies aid those who feel unstable or ungrounded. It has balanced steady energy and grounding ability that is known to aid abundance and prosperity and stimulate creativity.

This stone may stimulate your spiritual grounding capabilities, and has an excellent quality that helps you to correct imbalances between the left and right sides of the brain. It helps eliminate depression caused by left-right brain imbalance, and stimulates mental function by improving concentration, perception, and analytical abilities.

My Thoughts

In conclusion, this Trial of the Connection Spread shows us the versatility of The Wild Unknown Tarot. I really like this deck. Some believe that the cards are not easy to interpret, but I feel like that is not the case. All new Tarot Decks are going to take practice and repetition to get used to it.

Some don’t like the unconventionalism of the deck and believe that it strays too far from the concepts of the Rider-Waite-Smith Deck. This deck is completely void of actual human images, but it is not absent of human symbols like the Wands, Swords, and Cups.

I actually like the different interpretation of the classic themes and, being an animal lover, I love the animal and nature symbolism that radiates through this deck.

After practicing several spreads and laying out examples for all of you, my fondness only grew. Each card, down to every single color and detail, emanates symbolism of the card and Suit.

I also love how the cards’ meanings can be build upon with your own interpretations, making this deck unique to each reader.

In conclusion, I give this popular deck a “thumbs up”, but, as we have stated before, choose a deck that calls to you. Tarot is not about right or wrong, but about if you have a personal connection with the deck you are working with.
