Exploring The Wild Unknown Tarot Deck

Part 1

Trial Spreads, Card Discussions, and Crystals to Use

the wild unknown

The Wild Unknown Tarot Deck is a beautiful sight. Even if you do not care for the untraditional concept of the deck, you have to appreciate the visionary artwork by author and illustrator, Kim Krans. This unconventional, animal-based Tarot Deck has gained plenty of popularity since its original release in 2013 as a self-published Tarot.

In this article, we are going to start exploring the five different Tarot Spreads published in The Wild Unknown(TWU) Guidebook. I am also going to do test spreads on myself so that we can learn more about this deck and explore the cards in more detail.

In TWU Guidebook, Kim Krans lays out five example spreads to use with the deck. We are going to do two Trial Spreads, discuss the properties of the chosen cards, and crystals that we can use with them.

Past, Present, Future- Three Card Reading

Firstly, we have the Past, Present, Future Spread. Whether you are a Tarot Enthusiast or a Beginner, most have used this spread in their readings. This is a common spread to use with all Tarot decks and one of the more simpler spreads. It is one of the most popular three-card readings and is great for Self-Readings. This spread can easily clarify a situation and get to the heart of an issue.

TWU Past, Present, Future Spread Layout Meaning:

  • 1st Card: Influences from the Past that still affect the situation
  • 2nd Card: The Present- All that affects you either positive or negative
  • 3rd Card: The Likely Future or Outcome

Trial Spread

Consider that we are asking

Who I Am/Was/Will Be

Past: Daughter of Swords

Honest, Insightful

She is straight forward. Admired for her honesty and insights, this daughter learns from keen observation. She notices every detail because she never stops “watching”. This can be a burden, causing her to become spiteful and judgmental.

She “keeps it simple” and approaches situations directly and without nonsense.

She is a good listener, always trying to stay open-minded and objective.

Present: Father of Wands

Charismatic, Creative

He is a man of mystique and charisma. Others are drawn to him naturally, and he welcomes them with an open and loving heart.

He has a “master plan”, taking bold, calculated steps. He has complete confidence in his abilities due to his experience and skills.

He likes to keep other people on their toes and has a slight flair for the dramatic.

Future: Six of Pentacles

Prosperity, Growth, Generosity

The Six of Pentacles indicates that your “fruits are ready for harvesting”, bringing more wealth than anticipated. This could refer to money, skills, or gifts.

Make sure you are generous doing this bountiful time. Use your resources and talents to help and benefit others.

This card may also signify that generosity is coming from someone else to you. Accept the help with grace and put the resources to good use.

Clarity Spread- Four Card Reading

This is a “go-to” spread for finding lucidity in a perplexing situation. It offers a look into the overall scenario, as well as the three contributing factors that play out in the scenario, to greater or lesser degrees. These are not revealed in any particular order. You interpret their roles in your situation.

Card #1 is your overall scenario.

Cards #2,3,4 are the contributing factors.

Trial Spread

Consider that we are asking about a particularly hard situation

like something pertaining to a big career move or the next step in a relationship.

Overall Situation: Son of Swords

Forceful, Determined

He is a man of action.

He has a narrow focus and nothing is going to take him off the course he has chosen. He pushes forward with urgency and determination.

He can be stubborn and unwilling to see any other option aside from the one he’s already decided upon. He can be blunt in his interactions with others and patience isn’t always his strong suit.

The Son of Swords asks you to closely evaluate your approach in this situation. Step back and examine your approach from an unbiased perspective, and then use your wisdom to determine your next step.

Crystal to Use

Carnelian is said to attract prosperity, new resources and good luck. It is a talisman for success in any money-making venture. It is a crystal of ambition, drive and determination.

Contributing Factors:

Four of Swords

Stillness, Mental Power

Although threatening swords loom above, the lamb stays still and calm. This card encourages us to look inward and find the mental power to stay calm under pressure. It’s important to rest and find time to de-stress. Try to quiet the mind by meditating or connecting with nature.

The number 4 is commonly associated with stability and balance whereas the lamb suggests tranquility and peace.

Crystal to Use

Turquoise is a stone of tranquility, peace, and protection from the undesirable elements of life. It benefits the overall mood and emotion by balancing and inducing a sense of serenity and peace. It relieves stress and brings focus back to the center heart. It is empathetic and balancing, helping one to recognize the causes of happiness and unhappiness, and to master them.

Ace of Cups

Love’s Beginnings

Aces mark the beginning of exciting new phases. The Suit of Cups signify all ranges of emotions. This includes everything from friendship and love to loneliness and grief.

This could be time of good health, joy, and friendship. Maybe this signifies a “new start” in your life.

The Ace of Cups can signify the onset of feeling-based experiences. This card can remind you to open your heart, to allow your emotional energy to move freely. Allow yourself to feel whatever it is that you are feeling without labeling it as ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ This card often appears when we need to proceed with compassion and respect the signals our feelings are giving us.

Crystal to Use

Pink Tourmaline

Pink Tourmaline is used for cleansing the emotional body of destructive feelings and old wounds accumulated over time. It releases guilt, worry, depression and anxieties, and guides those emotions into self-love. It helps the emotionally “numb” to recover passion and a zest for life, and helps the timid find the courage to love by changing old patterns of thinking and inspiring new trust in opening the heart. Pink Tourmaline stimulates happiness and joy, peace and relaxation.

Nine of Pentacles

Happy, Healthy Home

This is a time to enjoy the many results of your loyalty and hard work.

This card shows the abundance and happiness that resides along the positive spectrum in the suit of pentacles.

Nine of Pentacles can ask you to consider your current relationship with your worldly pursuits. We are all a “work in progress”. Enjoy where you are now, but continue to pursue your life goals to get to where you ideally want to be.

Crystal to Use

Citrine is a stone of abundance and manifestation, attracting wealth and prosperity, success and all things good. It also encourages generosity and sharing good fortune. It strengthens the inner light and sparks creativity and imagination.
